Football jersey Friday #1

"When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood
as a child, I thought as a child. But, when I became
a man, I put away the things of a child."

(Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff gives Francis a gift.)
One of the perks of being Francis is all the swag he gets from world leaders.  How to win the heart and mind of Francis?  Give him a football (soccer ball) and jersey.  Since being elected word has gotten out about this vice and Francis has received jerseys by the hundreds.  The person whom is supposed to be the 'Vicar of Christ' in the world oohhs and aahhs over these gifts like a child playing with his toys.  Friday's should be dedicated to the crucifixion of Our Lord but in the Novus Ordo church they don't have room for un-fun things.  With that in mind here is the first installment of what is a new feature of this blog, 'Football jersey Friday'.

In the above photo the communist president of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, presents Francis with a Brazilian national football team jersey #10 which has a message written on it from soccer great Pele that reads, “To Pope Francis with respect and admiration, Edison Pele.”  Inscribed on the ball is a message from another soccer great, Ronaldo, “To Pope Francis, a big hug from your friend Ronaldo.”

Francis joked with Rousseff that he might be swayed to root for Brazil in the coming World Cup with receiving gifts like this.  To which Rousseff quipped back she hoped he would remain neutral at the very least.
