ReplyDeleteThere are several causes for men thinking that they are women, but none are born that way. The fact that it is mental illness is easily proved. One cause of it is that a boy is encouraged by his mother to act and think like a girl. Another cause is the reaction against shame: the boy is simply homosexual, but he deals with his shame over his homosexual desires by thinking that his desires are healthy because he is really a girl. Once the cause of the gender dysphoria is known, it can be treated; and certainly, removing the male sex organs is not treatment of the mental illness, but encouragement of it. The compassionate and Catholic view is that the people should be treated for their mental illness, or taught to cope with it; therefore, encouragement of sex-change operations is definitely not compassionate.
ReplyDeleteWhere self-interest and happiness conflict, a compassionate person wishes for another what is in the other's self-interest, not what makes him happy. In this hedonistic society, which values the pursuit of pleasure, a hedonist will coldly and uncaringly say, "He has the right to . . . if he wants to," and pretend that he is thereby being compassionate, whereas a caring person will say, "We must prevent him from doing that to himself." For the same reason that a caring person will not help an alcoholic to obtain alcohol, or an addict to obtain a fix, or a suicidal man to obtain a gun, so a caring person will not enable, encourage, or allow sex-change surgery. Needless to say, a caring President of the United States will not do so, either.
