Francis with another Roaming Catholic fangirl

Yesterday at the conclusion of his general audience, Francis rubbed shoulders with a Hollywood B-list actress, Eva Longoria.  The former soap opera actress and cast member of the immoral show, Desperate Housewives was thrilled to have met his humbleness.  She posted a photo of the meeting (see below) and wrote this description on instagram:

We at Call Me Jorge... are positive that Francis didn't correct her immodest dress nor rebuke her for her morally depraved and degenerate work.  Instead the conversation probably went like this... 

“Eva, you are so beautiful.  I’m glad to meet your newest fiance Jose Antonio Baston whom you are co-habitating with.  It’s nice you found love again after your Catholic marriages to Tyler Christopher and Tony Parker didn’t work out.  Pray for me and pray that on April 8th, 2016 when I publish my Apostolic Exhortation — Amoris Laetitia (The Joy of Love) you will be able to receive communion again.  Mercy, joy, blah, blah, blah...  I’m a big fan of all the work you do in North America promoting illegal immigration and the rights of illegal immigrants!  By the way Eva, that’s a nice red kabbalah bracelet.  Let me show you mine.  Rabbi Skorka made it for me and I use it to ward away Rosary-counters!”

Chief Rabbi of Israel says the only non-Jews allowed in Israel are those who follow the Noachide laws



Sephardi Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef said the following words last Saturday night.  Quotes are taken from Haaretz's article, Sephardi Chief Rabbi Says non-Jews Forbidden From Living in the Land of Israel.

the hermeneutics of talmudic alchemical continuity — John Paul II, Levinas, and Francis

Not many know who Emmanuel Lévinas is nor his influence.


Emmanuel L√©vinas was a Litvak (Lithuanian Jew) who immigrated to France where he became a philosopher.  He was a pupil of ‘Monsieur Chouchani’ (aka ‘Shushani’) under whom he studied the Talmud.  ‘Monsieur Chouchani’ also taught Elie Wiesel as well as abused him.  According to Michael Morgan of Indiana University, “Levinas advocates a reading of the Bible through talmudic lenses”.  Saint John Paul II was an avid student of L√©vinas while Jorge Mario Bergoglio's mentor, Juan Carlos Scannone was strongly influenced by L√©vinas.  Scannone adopted L√©vinas’ concepts of ‘the other’ and ‘face-to-face’ into his ideas which we see reflected in the words and action of Francis.

ZENIT spoke with Nigel Zimmermann about his book, Levinas and Theology, published by Bloomsbury in September 2013. Zimmermann teaches theology at the University of Notre Dame Australia in Sydney.

ZENIT: Tell us about your inspiration for the book.

Zimmermann: I first discovered Levinas through reading John Paul II, especially his interview, Crossing the Threshold of Hope (1994). There, His Holiness called Levinas’ thought a ‘testimony for our age’, and paralleled his philosophy of the other with the ‘radical solidarity’ that the Christian Gospel maintains with every human person. The points of convergence between John Paul II — and especially his earlier writings before becoming Bishop of Rome under the penmanship of Karol Wojtyla — with Levinas, were remarkable. In fact, Wojtyla and Levinas had begun a dialogue and friendship which has largely been overlooked.

Out of this, I developed an interest in both thinkers which took hold as I completed my doctorate at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. I recall my supervisor (the recently departed Rev Dr Michael Purcell) joking that one of my problems is that people who like John Paul II don’t read Levinas, and that people who like Levinas don’t read John Paul II…but in fact they had read each other’s work with great interest! A challenge for a Catholic theologian is to read both charitably and critically.

One has to leave oneself in order to be able to contemplate it.” Pope Francis also stresses his appreciation of the periphery from whence he looks upon the world: “Since [the time of] Magellan, one has learned to look at the world from the standpoint of the south. That is why I say that the world should better see itself from the periphery than from the center; and I understand better my Faith from the standpoint of the periphery. But the periphery can be human – i.e., linked to poverty, health, or to a feeling of existential periphery.”

Krzysztof Wtorek will perform at World Youth Day 2016 for Francis!

And bring Polish Novus Ordo Evangelization
to the youth.

The aim of Wtorek's music is to make people happy. People want to be happy, he said, and the desire for happiness without God sometimes drives them to do things that are self-destructive, such as turning to drugs.
"This is really evangelisation," he said of his music. "You can be happy. You can be peaceful. You can be meditative," Wtorek said. "I believe in that. I put my life into that."

In each of Wtorek's parish assignments since his ordination in 1995, he has cultivated a music ministry. He was assigned in 2009 to Saint James Church in Ventnor. When the Longort, Margate and Ventnor churches merged into one parish, Holy Trinity, in 2010, he became the associate pastor for all the churches.
Since Wtorek has been doing the rock-gospel mass on Sundays, it's attendance has grown from 30 people at the start to 150 people during the off season to as many as 220 people during the summer, said Basil DiCerbo, the church's Eucharistic minister.
The start of the international gospel-rock group can be traced to eight years ago when Wtorek visited Poland. One of his friends called and asked him to stop in Germany before heading back to this country. Wtorek, whose main instrument is the bass guitar, was asked to play bass with a 98-voice German choir, which sang gospel music, at a concert in a castle.

"I think it's a great way to spread the good news of the Lord and to bring people closer to Jesus," she said.
None of this would be happening if not for Wtorek's earlier life as a rock musician. The priest still keeps his hair in a ponytail and sports a beard and mustache from his rebellious rock days.
Wtorek said he learned to play songs such as the Animals' "The House of the Rising Sun" by listening to Polish radio. It's a song he still can play to this day.
Wtorek's days as a rock musician lasted from age 16, when he started in garages, to age 23, when his band, Astat, was able to play in theater-size venues.
When Wtorek came to the United States in 1988 and entered the seminary, he thought his life as a musician was over. Instead, he has found himself creating updated arrangements of traditional hymns, using a variety of instruments and computer software.

Usury and the prison of Time

This isn't the usual post on Francis but does pertain to him.  Francis is always lamenting about how greedy hoarders not sharing their possessions is the cause of all poverty.  This is done usually in his homilies, general audiences, and interviews.  His behavior however betrays him as he has usurers, moneylenders, and bankers alike as personal guests at the Vatican City State.  Francis himself is a moneylender being that he is in charge of the Vatican Bank (IOR) and is also an advocate of micro-usury.  Not only are Francis’ words hypocritical, they ring hollow.

The blog Psalmistice recently put up a post which uses a modern day television show named, Once Upon A Time, to demonstrate how the evils of debt money and usury enslave one in the prison of Time.  A very interesting entry as well as a must read.  Our kudos to Mr. McKay for his work!

FLASHBACK: A talmudic rabbi chimes in on the election of Jorge Mario Bergoglio

The institution is old and venerable, historic and important. Adherents of the faith turn to it for guidance. 
But there are concerns that it is not responsive to changes in the world. 
Part of the problem is the people running it. Is the group making the decisions too insular? Can fresh thinking of new people break through? Is the current leadership too tied to the past in order to embrace a new future? Are they too resistant to change for the institution and the religion's own good? 
Perhaps a fresh face and a different perspective would be just what the institution needed to bring it into the new world! 
I am not talking about the Papacy and the Roman Catholic Church. Rather, I am talking about the Nasi, Rabban Gamliel, who was the head of the Sanhedrin. 
The single most famous story in the Talmud about the renewal of religious leadership and the impact that has on the creation of a different kind of religious community comes from Berakhot, 27B. Rabban Gamliel, dynastic head, stuck in his ways, ended up disserving the institution that he loved. His colleagues fired him and put in a fresh new face, Rabbi Elazar ben Azaryah (of the Haggadah fame, "Verily I am like a man of seventy." He was 18 when he was made head of the Sanhedrin.) 
How do these two stories of old institutions trying to find new leadership reflect on each other? The Vatican and Jerusalem. The Cardinal Conclave and the Sanhedrin. The Pope and the Nasi.
A community of the faithful trying to preserve and to renew.

This is after Francis told children at his general audience on 06 August 2014 not to waste time playing with hollow things such as chatting on the internet and playing with their cell phones.  Francis, you say it is bad but then your actions betray you.  Which is it Francis?  Who appears hollow now?

Mark Kenney has more Catholic sense than the rector of St. Cecilia Cathedral

Another one from the you can't make this up file.  In Omaha, Nebraska at the St. Cecilia Cathedral from January 29th to the 31st was the 31st Annual Cathedral Flower Festival.  As if having a flower festival in a cathedral wasn't bad enough it also had a secular theme, “A Night at the Movies”.  Suffice to say these movies such as “Grease” are immoral.  Here's what the rector of St. Cecilia, Fr. Michael Gutgsell, wrote in his Pastor's Column;
January 29, 30 and 31 this year will mark the 29th Flower Festival weekend. The theme of this year’s festival is “A Night at the Movies”. Movie themes and stars from the Golden Age of motion pictures will be captured and celebrated in dazzling floral arrangements. More than thirty artists, plus the Cathedral Flower Guild, will ply their creative imaginations in these exhibits. 
During the exhibit hours on Saturday and Sunday there will be instrumental and vocal presentations by local groups and stylists. The Cultural Center will feature a complementary art exhibit and the Parish Center will have musical presentations and the goodies of Wheatfields.

The cathedral must be hurting for money as they charged quite a sum of money to privately view this affront to God.
For $75, one can attend a private viewing of the festival exhibits Jan. 29 from 7-9 p.m., and a party from 7:30-10 p.m. at the cultural center. Camille Metoyer Moten and Jim Boggess will perform songs from the movies in the Cinema Cabaret. Call 402-827-3847 by Jan. 18 to register.

Now that the stage has been set, Mark Kenney the then custodian of St. Cecilia Cathedral enters the story.  As written by Michael kelly of Omaha.com in his article, With a pair of bolt cutters and sense of indignation, custodian cuts down what flies in church:
On the first morning of the 31st annual Cathedral Flower Festival, with its theme of “A Night at the Movies,” an agitated church custodian made a bold move. 
Mark Kenney, 59, who grew up in the parish, had worked at St. Cecilia Cathedral for three years. Around 8 a.m. on Jan. 29, he went to a work shed, picked up a pair of heavy-duty bolt cutters and ascended to a catwalk high above the mostly empty nave, or main sanctuary. 
He looked through a peephole, he said, to make sure he wouldn’t hurt any people. And then he cut a steel cable, which sent a suspended, umbrella-carrying, hat-wearing Mary Poppins figure crashing to the floor.
Kenney then went downstairs and removed a cardboard Buddha figure from the Nash Chapel, which also featured costumed mannequins from “The King and I.” He threw the Buddha out one door and proceeded to toss costumed mannequins out two other doors.

Sadly, Mary flew in the cathedral once again.
Gutgsell had known that his custodian had misgivings about secular displays in the church but says he was dumbfounded and didn’t understand why Kenney would take such drastic action. In a brief meeting that week, the pastor said, he had asked for Kenney’s promise not to be disruptive. 
Now the priest was shocked, saying, “You promised!” 
In response, Kenney said, he lashed out. “I started screaming, ‘Father, this is bullshit! We can’t have this in the church. This isn’t culture, it’s Disney crap!’ ” 
Kenney — who has served three terms of up to six months in federal prisons for crossing security lines at military bases in protest of nuclear weapons — then knelt at the communion rail and prayed until officers arrived and handcuffed him. 
He spent a night in jail before he was bailed out and pleaded no contest. He said he is scheduled for sentencing “on Holy Thursday,” March 24. 
Damaging items at the flower festival was wrong, and Kenney said in an interview this week that he will make restitution. But he says secular items such as movie characters are inappropriate in the sacred space of the cathedral and amount to sacrilege and idolatry.

Gutgsell, a former chancellor of the Omaha Archdiocese and a Catholic University-licensed “canon lawyer,” an expert in church laws and rules, disagrees. 
“Obviously, context is everything,” the priest said, noting that the cathedral also is home to about six concerts a year. No sacrilege or disrespect is conveyed, he said, in the concerts or the dozens of exhibits at the flower festival. 
“Cathedrals,” he said, “are kind of the epicenter for culture presentation and development.” 
Eileen Burke-Sullivan, a theologian and vice provost for mission and ministry at Creighton University, said she sees no problem. The cathedral and the archdiocese, she said, have supported the arts in Omaha for many years. 
“In mixing thematic popular culture with the beauty of God’s creation in flowers,” she said, “I don’t think there’s any inherent idolatry.”

The amoral ex-chancellor of the archdiocese of Omaha, Fr. Michael Gutgsell, who desecrated the cathedral with a sacrilegious display but had Mark Kenney arrested.


Michael Kelly then continues in his article,
In a letter of termination two days after the festival incident, Gutgsell wrote to Kenney: “None of the florists and none of the volunteers, any number of whom took time off their work or traveled some distance, had the slightest intention or reason to dishonor the Cathedral. You assigned the word ‘desecration’ to the entire project and as a result slandered anyone associated with it.”

If this is what the Novus Ordo thinks honoring God and His Angels and His Saints is...yikes!
