Bp. Fellay discusses the FSSPX’s desire to become a ‘personal prelature’ and their future goals

Bp. Fellay wants the Society to become a ‘personal preature’

In a recent interview with Regina Einig for Die Tagespost„Wir sind ein Störfaktor in der Kirche“ Bp. Fellay tackled the Society’s relationship with modernist Rome, “goodness is there, benevolence. For years, we have been working with Rome to rebuild trust. And we have made great progress despite all the reactions.... The main points - religious freedom, ecumenism, new mass - are all open questions. This is incredible progress. Until now it has been said: You must obey. Meanwhile, curia workers tell us: we should open a seminary in Rome, a university for the defense of tradition.”  Regina Einig then asked ‘What would a reasonable solution be?’ to which Fellay replied, “A personal prelature.”  Bp. Fellay then explained why the talks with modernist Rome have stalled, “Last year, Archbishop Pozzo told us that the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Congregation approved the text we were to sign. We should agree with a personal prelature. One and a half months later, Cardinal Müller decided to revise the text and demand a clearer acceptance of the Council [Vatican II] and the legitimacy of the Holy Mass [Novus Ordo Missae]. First of all, we opened discussion channels, then they blocked them. What do you really want from us? This is where the devil works. It is a spiritual fight.”  Lastly, responded when asked, ‘Do you personally trust Francis?’, “We have a very good relationship. If we let him know that we are in Rome, this door is open. He is always helping us on a smaller scale. For example, he told us, "I have problems when I do something good for you. I help Protestants and Anglicans - why can not I help the Catholics? " Some want to prevent the agreement. We are a disruptive factor in the church. The Pope stands in between.”  Bp. Fellay’s interview with
Regina Einig ends with the bishop showing her a handwritten letter from Francis to Bp. Fellay in French with the address “Cher frere, cher fils” (Dear brother, dear son).
Anonymous members of the Roman Curia want a seminary like this in Rome.

Trump’s 1989 trip to Israel

Excerpts from Haaretz’s article, Israel Releases 'Trump File': The U.S. President's Little-known 1989 Visit to the Jewish State by Ofer Aderet.  Underlines are ours for emphasis.

Among the projects that Trump showed an interest in during his visit was building a casino in Eilat. In the Trump file, one of the documents notes that this was the "practical reason" for Trump's visit, "since that is Mr. Trump's field."
Trump, who was 43 at the time, arrived in Israel on July 29, 1989 on his private jet.  An unnamed deputy minister - probably Yossi Beilin, then-Finance Minister Shimon Peres’s deputy - welcomed the tycoon at the airport.
The next morning Trump had breakfast with Beilin and Teddy Kollek, the mayor of Jerusalem. They then went on a tour of Jerusalem’s Old City, several museums and Bethlehem, which was under full Israeli control at that time, before the establishment of the Palestinian Authority.
After lunch Trump flew to the Dead Sea, accompanied by Peres, where the billionaire was presented with a development project. He then flew to an area in the northern Negev desert that had been constructed for people who had been evacuated seven years earlier from the Israeli settlement of Yamit in Sinai. Trump also visited a moshav and a kibbutz and asked to see a playground he had donated to the Jewish National Fund.
Trump then traveled to Mitzpe Ramon in the Negev desert and visited the Ramon military base. He finished the day in Eilat, where he watched the sunset and dined at the Neptune Hotel, followed by a nighttime tour of the Red Sea resort town.
According to plan, Trump started his second day with a dive at the coral reef reserve in Eilat. He then attended to business, visiting several potential sites for investment - including an airport - and examined opportunities for investing in Tel Aviv and Herzliya. After meeting with then-Prime Minister Shamir, Trump returned to the U.S. by the end of the day.
The documents kept in the state archive’s Trump file also include quotes sent to the Foreign Ministry by different upscale hotels competing for the opportunity to host Trump. Hyatt Regency in Jerusalem, boasting a deluxe 5-star rating, offered a “room facing Jerusalem’s magnificent views, a fruit basket and a daily newspaper.” Ultimately, however, another hotel had the honor of hosting the billionaire. A letter to the Foreign Ministry from the Laromme Hotel confirms the reservation for the corresponding dates.

The hotel made some concessions to its guests, saying that it would only charge Peres the rates for a regular room while giving him a suite. This implies that Trump and Peres slept at the same hotel during the businessman’s visit.
The question of who invited Trump and why is answered in a letter by journalist Mira Avrech, also kept in the archives. Three people claimed to have initiated the invitation: former Prime Minister Shamir, former Finance Minister Peres and former Eilat Mayor Rafi Hochman. According to Avrech, all three are correct since they indeed all invited Trump, albeit on different occasions. Considering purchasing El Al, Trump was keen to visit. Due to his concerns about internal Israeli politics, however, he requested an official invitation. The invitation was signed by Israel’s then-ambassador to the U.S., Moshe Arad, in the name of the prime minister and his substitute.

Francis sacks head of the Swiss Guards

Bye-bye Daniel, enjoy seeing Burke!

It wasn't a cardinal, bishop, priest, or banker this time at the chopping block.  Instead, Francis has taken his cleaver of reform to the head of the Swiss Vatican Guards, one Daniel Anrig.  In a one sentence statement published in L'Osservatore Romano,

"The holy father has ordered that Colonel Daniel Rudolf Anrig end his term on 31 January, at the conclusion of the extension of his mandate."

No comment was given by the Vatican but according to reporters for the BBC,

"Col Anrig's approach has riled colleagues, with one Swiss Guard telling Italian media "this is the end of a dictatorship", on news of his departure."

There has also been speculation that Daniel Anrig fell into Francis' disfavor when Francis learned about his role in a raid on an immigration refugee center in Switzerland which happened in 2003.  He was investigated by the Red Cross and Amnesty International for alleged human rights violations.

Other speculation has focused on Daniel Anrig moving to a new spacious apartment above the Swiss Guard barracks.  This doesn't fit the image Francis has carefully cultivated of being a humble and simple person.  Even though we might add Francis has a whole floor in the Vatican hotel and it is more grand than the Apostolic Apartments.

More telling we believe is  Francis doesn't like strict rules or anyone who follows them.  As related by Nick Squires in the London Telegraph,

The 77-year-old pope is said to have been appalled recently to have emerged one morning from his private suite of rooms to find that a Swiss Guard had been standing guard all night.
“Sit down,” he told the young guardsman, to which the soldier said: “I can’t, it’s against orders.”

The Pope replied: “I give the orders around here,” and promptly went off to buy a cappuccino for the exhausted soldier.

For more on Francis' interaction with the anonymous Swiss Guard, read our entry Jorge and the Swiss Guard.

In October, the Pope was photographed shaking hands with a member of the elite corps, breaking years of protocol which demanded that pontiffs should treat the Swiss Guardsmen with aloofness.

The Jesuit pontiff, nicknamed “the people’s Pope”, is said to want the Swiss Guard to be less rigid in its rules, even “less military”, according to Il Messagero, a Rome-based daily.

That is in line with the Pope’s dislike of security in general.

Perhaps Francis was upset Daniel hadn't cooked great food for him like fellow guardsmen, David Geisser, to feed his ravenous and never satiated appetite?

Maybe Francis was upset that Daniel wasn't doing the job he had asked him to do?  For more see our entry, Francis tells Vatican security their mission is to combat gossip!

Or is it possible Daniel attended Latin Mass regularly?

Could it have something to do with the homosexual lobby at the Vatican?

Who really knows?

All one can say with certainty is that revolution sweeping through the Vatican is on the orders of Francis!
